Sridhar Durbhakula, M.D.Board Certified Orthopaedic SurgeonMinimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement

Sridhar Durbhakula, M.D. is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with advanced training in the comprehensive treatment of hip and knee arthritis, including joint preservation techniques, minimally invasive partial and total joint replacement, anterior hip replacement and complex revision total joint replacement. He also utilizes the latest technologies in blood conservation and pain management to accelerate postoperative rehabilitation. He is also closely involved with the implant manufacturing industry and helps to investigate and evaluate alternative bearing surfaces in total joint replacement, including metal-on-plastic, metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic articulations. Dr. Durbhakula has pioneered direct anterior hip replacement in the Montgomery County area with the use of navigation and the specialized Hana table.

Dr. Durbhakula attained both his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering and his medical degree as a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University. A native of upstate New York, Dr. Durbhakula completed his orthopaedic surgery training at Albany Medical Center. During that time he helped develop the original technique to performing a two-incision minimally invasive total hip replacement and worked on patenting a technique to treat complicated infections after total joint replacement. Dr. Durbhakula completed his fellowship training at the world renowned Massachusetts General Hospital, in affiliation with Harvard Medical School. During that time he served on the faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital, participated in numerous clinical and basic science research efforts and received extensive training in primary and revision total joint replacement techniques.

Dr. Durbhakula has presented at numerous international meetings, including the American Orthopaedic Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He has co-authored a textbook and numerous book chapters, and has multiple peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Durbhakula has great interest in continuing medical education and the advancement of orthopaedic technologies. He currently serves a clinical instructor with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and helps train other orthopaedic surgeons on minimally invasive surgical techniques.. He also serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Shady Grove Hospital.
